Mixed Week

Maul Rats were delighted with a 2-1 win over champions Delirium FC on Saturday. Dominating possession, the Rats were nearly made to pay for their inability to turn it into goals as Delirium scored a late equalizer, but an injury time blitz of chances saw an even later winner for the home side.

Away at City Islanders on Wednesday, Rats were held to a 1-1 draw. A road point is a good point, but with powerhouse FC Roblar up next, fans are concerned it may not have been enough.

ASL Drops Home Opener

AS Leucadia dropped their home opener to Goldstrikers 80, 1-nil, in a match they essentially controlled but couldn't find the final touch. The Sandy Side followed up with a 2-1 win over FC Camus to get back on track.

"We hate losing at the Lot," said manager pete stevens, "but Goldtrikers stuck to their plan and we couldn't break them down in the final third. Today was better, though I'm a bit annoyed at allowing the goal in extra time. We'll need to find a way to combat these 5-man defenses we're likely to see throughout the campaign."

ASL will travel to Appalachia to take on Venetian Reds Saturday.

H&M Boys off to Solid Start

SOUTHPOINTE -- The third attempt at rebuilding could be the successful one for Gundas FC after a strong debut by the H&M boys — defender Hampus Modin and forward Hamilton Mahon — to start the season.

Mahon was brought in during the silly season while Modin just arrived at the club yesterday. Both are thought to be vital for GFC going forward.

"The backbone of our club is still the players who led us to the championship several seasons ago," manager kingchros said. "So in other words, we're old. We see these guys as being the future of our team, but we thought that about other young guys as well. We need to make sure these guys improve, or else our vets will retire and we will be stuck in mediocrity."

Progression

Manager Jack took over Venetian Reds when they were the worst team in the league, after some tinkering  we are now the 3rd worst team in the league and we actually won our last game 3 - 0. As an optimistic type I feel we might even get 3rd spot but I would not put money on it.

City Islanders get best of FCR

"Oh we lost those points in a bad way," began FC Roblar manager Al Hagen. "City Islanders did well, but I still feel we should have beaten them. Perhaps we'll get there next time.  We certainly won't be taking them lightly the next time we face off against them."

Acceptable Start

Two games into the new season and the Oglala have already matched the number of wins from last season...one. Unfortunately, the lost the second match of the week and have dropped to their familiar 4th place spot. making fans wonder if 4th place isn't home.

Their have been some changes in personnel in a move to try and really develop some younger players. It will take a few seasons to see if the plan worked but fingers are crossed.

Carolina first win of new season!

Carolina looked sharp and in good form as they move through Worthington FC 4-0 in front of the home town supporters. Collecting goals for Carolina were, Bradshaw, Snider, and the 24 year old Hale netted two on the day.

" It was a great victory for us, but in this division we have to have this type of form and effort each and every match. We need to get to the playoffs where anything can happen". Said a very happy manager.

Next up is Delirium FC away, so another very difficult match coming up for Carolina.

Delirium Wins the Title!

XPERT STADIUM, Neutral Site - It was a Leon Hendricks header from a cross that found the back of the net in the 40th minute, that ultimately made the difference. It was at that point that manager Rockafowlareportedly looked at his bench and said, "We've got this one in the bag."

Goals would be scored in the 66th and 68th minute for Delirium and Rossoneri respectively and it was ultimately the barrage of chances, nine in all, that kept Rossoneri keeper Maurio Pirelli on his heels for the entirety of the match.

"We knew if we could just get one by their keeper, Pirelli, we had a shot," Rockafowla said. "He's a phenomenal player, possibly the best player in the league, but I was confident our guys, and particularly our vaunted defense could hold the lead."

It may not have been the best game the Pink Elephants ever played (statistically it ranked as only the 5th best), but today, the pink side was the better of the two clubs on the pitch, and at the end of the season, that's all that mattered. One could argue that the title was really won in a quarterfinal match between Delirium and long-time league dynasty FC Roblar, that ended in a 4-3 shootout win for DFC.

"I wouldn't necessarily agree with that." Rockafowla said, while drenched in a postgame bath of Delirium Tremens beer. "Roblar was obviously the big club. We had to get by them to obtain a championship, and in many ways, we proved that if you want to be the man, you have to beat the man, but to say that was the championship game would be a disservice to both AS Leucadia and Rossoneri, who are both phenomanially talented clubs that pushed us to the limit."

Long-time Delirium legends Cedomir Milojevic, Zachery Murfin and Andre Nosik stood on the sidelines with the club during the entire match. The trio was also in town to try to lobby for their spots in the newly created Big Soccer Hall of Fame.

"It was phenomenal to have those guys on our bench. This is a title for them as well." Rockafowla said. "To think of where we were, when Murf and Cedomir were on our club, we didn't have a player north of seven skill bars. They helped get us to this point, and while I wish they could have been on the field and part of the team, it just didn't work out that way. Still, I definitely think they deserve to be in the Hall-of-Fame, and I hope this championship victory helps their cause and the cause of some of our other legends like Vanilla Ice."

Ice was named the man-of-the-match in today's championship contest; a feat worthy of the 33-year-old defender, who has been with the club nearly since it's infancy as a 17-4 youth.

"Word to your mother. I just want to thank God and give a shoutout to all of my teammates:Jules Winnfield, Pat Anderson, Saul Goodman, Dave Novotny, Jae Moo Kyeung, Aaron Rosenberg, Dave Reiter, Leon Hendricks and Jesus Quintana; this is for all of us!" Ice said. "You have to be really lucky when you go through this grueling postseason. You have to avoid injury and cards. I know that Rossoneri had to play an 18-4 defender today and that likely hurt their chances. We tip our caps to them though, they gave us quite the fight. We know how hard it is to climb this mountain and we are honored to be at the top."

At that moment, keeper Jesus Quintana interrupted the live television interview Ice was giving and simply shouted "No one (expletive) with the Jesus!" to which Saul Goodman followed with "Uh oh! Better call Saul!"

Club members partied on the field showering themselves with team-sponsored Delirium Tremens beer. Meanwhile, back in tiny Melle, Belgium, the home of both the brewery and team headquarters, fans filled the streets, drank in excess and sang in the city square throughout the night.

Boarding the team plane to fly home, Rockafowla had one final comment to the throngs of fans and reporters. "The title will rest with us for the time being. We'll do the best we can to defend it. We may be able to, we may not. Regardless, I want everyone in the league to know, anything is possible and in this league, any team can win it all."
